OAKLAND – A man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in Oakland, police said.

The fatal shooting was reported just before 4:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Louvaine Avenue, in the Brookfield Village neighborhood, according to the Oakland Police Department. Officers arrived to find a man in his 40s suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The man was transported to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries a short time later, police said. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The death marked the 19th homicide of the year in the city investigated by Oakland police.

An investigation is underway into the shooting. As of Thursday night, police had not identified a motive or any suspects.
