Giants Linked to Landing $38 Million Former Cubs Star
The San Francisco Giants have been named as the top fit for one of the best pending free agents in baseball. The San Francisco Giants are reportedly in talks to sign free agent pitcher Clay Holmes, one of the top free agent pitchers in Major League Baseball. The Athletic's Jim Bowden has suggested that San Francisco is the best overall fit for Holmes, who pitched for the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets in 2026. Holmes has one more season remaining on a three-year, $38 million contract in Chicago, but the final year of the deal is a player option for $12 million. If Holmes opts out, the San Francisco team is expected to pay around $44 million over two years. This move would save money for other targets but address a key need for the Giants, which recently lost 97 games and finished 35 games out of first place in the National League West.
