This World Series Pitcher Could Shine in a New Role with the A's
The A's could buy low on this pitcher and move him into a new role. Aaron Ashby, a left-hander from the Brewers, has expressed his hopes of returning to a starting pitcher role in the future. The A's organization, known for its "moneyball" approach, often finds cheap players that can still provide elite performance for the team. The team's current pitching staff was criticized for having the worst bullpen ERA in all of baseball last season and having one of the worst rotations in all baseball. Instead of spending at least $20 million on a veteran starter in free agency, the A's may trade for Ashby to make him a starting player. Since Ashby is a reliever, his trade value will be lower than trading for a strong starting pitcher. The move for Ash by the A’s could align him with J.T. Ginn and Jacob Lopez and whoever else the team brings in this offseason.
