Motorcyclist dies in Oakland crash

Police said speeding appeared to be a factor in the collision but it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were also factors. A 59-year-old Oakland resident motorcyclist, identified as an Oakland resident, died from injuries sustained when he crashed into a light pole in the Millsmont neighborhood. The fatal collision occurred about 10 p.m. Monday on Seminary Avenue near Outlook Avenue. The motorbike rider was riding northbound on the street in the lane closest to the sidewalk, merging into the center median and losing control of the motorcycle. He was ejected onto the roadway and taken to a hospital where he died about a half an hour later. Police believe speeding was a factor in the collision, but it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were also factors.

OAKLAND — A 59-year-old motorcyclist died Monday night from injuries suffered when he crashed into a light pole in the Millsmont neighborhood, authorities said.

The man’s name has not yet been released. Police said he was an Oakland resident.

The fatal collision happened about 10 p.m. Monday on Seminary Avenue near Outlook Avenue.

As he approached Outlook Avenue he merged into the lane closest to the center median, lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a light pole in the median, causing him to be ejected onto the roadway, police said.

He was taken to a hospital where he died about a half-hour later.

Police said speeding appeared to be a factor in the collision but it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were also factors.
