Oakland Officer Let DUI Suspect Go Before Fatal I-880 Crash
An Oakland officer allegedly let a suspected drunk driver go. An hour later, she killed a paramedic on I-880. An Alameda County judge has allowed the family of paramedic Anmol-Kiran Kaur Bassi to pursue a lawsuit against Oakland over an officer's handling of a suspected drunk driver shortly before she killed Bassi on I-880. The family alleges that the officer let the driver leave after her car became stuck on railroad tracks without a field sobriety test or arrest. The crash occurred on November 29, 2025. Gianni Robinson was driving towards an In-N-Out in Oakland with a friend when her car got stuck on railway tracks. Robinson was later transported to Highland Hospital with injuries and later charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. The officer involved in the incident was placed on administrative leave pending his termination.
