San Francisco International Airport Faces Early 3-Month Weather Disruption Alert

Winter flooding could affect SFO and surrounding roads, according to a new UC Davis report. The University of California, Davis (UC Davis) has issued a warning that San Francisco International Airport (SFO) could be vulnerable to coastal flooding this winter. The warning comes as forecasters predict a strong El Niño will continue into early 2027. While the airport is not predicted to disrupt flights, the concern is what could happen when several unfavorable conditions occur together. The California Coastal Commission’s king tide calendar predicts extreme high tides around Thanksgiving and January 21–22. SFO officials are already making preparations to reduce the risk of flooding. Other vulnerable transportation locations include Highway 101, Highway 37, and Highway 101. The report also warns of potential flooding in these areas. Travelers should take precautions by checking several sources and checking highway conditions.
